Aha, but I didn't say when. I just think it's inevitable.

Darren.

Hi Dave,

It's only Darren who has ever said certainly to me, that regular batteries
are going to be phased out. I simply don't believe it.

All the best

Steve

I'm sure Darren would change his mind about rechargeable batteries, if like
me back in February, while skiing using hands free walkie talkies, which
were fully charged the night before, you suddenly lose contact with your
guide. Why, because those damn rechargeables have gone flat.
Not only damn annoying, but dangerous too. You can guess where they ended
up that night!
Solar power is ok, but there aren't many solar powered torches on the market
lol I don't think there will be many ladies, wanting solar powered Rabbits
either, no staying power lol, and who wants to see the last of that great
phrase "Batteries not included".

Dave

Hi Darren,

I don't believe rechargeables will ever be forced on people, they don't last
long enough with high drain products. And the energy it takes to keep
recharging them I would say equals that of throwing batteries away.

Solar power is the way to go, but we are not there yet. I don't use
rechargeables either, because they simply don't last long enough when push
comes to shove, especially in recording devices.

All the best

Steve

In my humble opinion that's not a very environmentally friendly attitude.

Rechargeable batteries, in whatever form they may take are here to stay and just like filament light bulbs they will eventually be obsolete, so you will
inevitably be forced to use rechargeables.

Plus of course the cost of recharging a few sets of batteries is far less
than buying brand new ones, even if you do buy them in bulk. So it's really
a false economy.

Darren.

Phil,

Well that's a no brainer, have you ever found a rechargable battery that
last's a quarter of the time a duracell battery lasts? and gives some
warning that its about to expire, I haven't! I can't be bothered changing
batteries all the time, so I use Duracell. I buy them in bulk from Costco,
and so the price is much more reasonable.

Dave

Thanks Dave, no surprise as you say but helpful nonetheless. What would be
interesting would be a comparison of performance of the likes of duracell
vs rechargeable..

Duracell, out performed all others, no surprise there, and Morison's own
were the best buy. Duracell worked out at 51 pence per hour and Morrison's
29 pence per hour. Duracell lasted twice as long as the Morison's
batteries, so how many batteries do you want to carry around with you?

Dave

Sounds interesting, just for interest what was their findings re batteries?
Is the show repeated at all do you know?

Hi Graham,

Take your pick, possibly the last two items! [smile]

20.00 THE GADGET SHOW. Consumer technology show. Jason Bradbury and Suzi
Perry
put rugged watches and multimedia players through their paces, while Jon Bentley visits some of Britain's leading technology companies to
have a sniff around their research and development facilities.
And,
with so many Christmas presents depending on them, which batteries
are best value for money? (Last in series) (Oracle)

Kind regards,

Gerry.
