Hi Steve

Been playing with it. Of course with no sight and no experience of taking
pictures it is rather hit and miss. Not sure if it is the same with KNFB Reader
or does it not require such a good image to be taken?

Anyway, I tried it out with a few documents, experimenting with holding it at
different angles and at different distances and was kind of surprised. I did
manage to read an address on an envelope, so even if only to tell who the post
is for it's not bad as a free app. I don't think you'd read a document with it,
but I can see how it might be useful for perhaps scanning a page to see what
the document is, the title of a book and like I say, who the post is for.

I think I will need to experiment a bit more and perhaps enlist the help of a
sighted person to see what the image is when held at different angles/distances
and so on.

Something worth playing with and if it only has limited use, then so what, it's
free!

  Hi Barbara,

I had it on one of my phones, but even a sighted person couldn't get it to
work that well. The random letters are not Talks, they are exactly what you
get. You must have to take a really good pic to get that thing to work.

  All the best

  Steve

Got a Nokia E71 on the Vodafone network. Not sure if this app is specific to
the phone or network. Wondered if anyone had seen or used it? And if so, what's
it all about?

In Instalations there is an application called Multi Scanner. Once opened
there are two options, Text Reader or Card Reader. Whichever you are in, if you
press Select a photograph is taken. I presume it takes a photo to recognise
text. I can't say what is displayed on the screen, but if you put a piece of
paper with some text in the view of the camera lense and take a photo, TALKS
just reads a load of random letters, numbers and symbols. I haven't asked
anyone sighted yet, but I don't know if this is because these are the
characters displayed on the screen, or if it's just how TALKS interprets them.
Perhaps this is a text recognition rather like the KNFB Reader but does not
work with TALKS.

Would be greatful for any feedback. Nowhere is it mentioned in the E71
manual, that makes me think it is a Vodafone app.
