It depends. If you know what you're doing, have a reasonable level of tech
know-how, and want a light, fast-running PC, then Microsoft antivirus is
fine - I've always used it and never been hacked.

BUT at the same time, I also know the signs to looks out for regarding
dodgy downloads, and I always make sure my PC is up to date.

For me, the combination of Google Chrome (or any other browser with "bad
site" warnings) and common sense has worked well.

The bottom line is - you can't account for naievety, stupidity and
gullibility. You can have the best, most expensive antivirus in the world,
but if you answer the phone to someone claiming to be "Windows technical
support" and let them connect to your computer, everything is over anyway.
The very best antivirus is education :)
