Tis will certainly depend on the display.
Over the years I have had Navigator, Powerbraille, Focus and Alva displays.
Of these, the Powerbraille were the most reliable apart from when I spilt a
G&T into it!
It was about 15 years ago and about £150 for maintenance.
The Alvas seem to be less reliable as they seem to get sticky dots more
readily. The latest service for my 640 was £350, about three years ago.
For ongoing maintenance, I clean the display at the end of every day with
either a pre-injection swab, or a piece of lint soaked with isoprotyl
alcohol which is available from Maplin.
I certainly recommend covering the display when not in use, as even the
smallest airborn particles can stop the odd dot working.

Subject: [access-uk] Maintenance costs for braille displays
I am thinking about buying a braille display privately. I have checked with
Sight & Sound regarding repair costs but this does not answer the question
as to how often braille display needs servicing or repair. For example
replacing a cell was over £100.
Would anybody like to share their experiences please.
