Barbera, I don't doubt that some machines will allow you to do it, but as i said, it is highly likely you will overheat the machine. Even if it cuts out itself with a processor temperature monitor, permanent damage can be done in the long run if it is used in this way. I am not sure but I think it might be in Power Options on the Control Panel. The place where you set it to do whatever you want after being idle for so long. I am pretty sure they is an option for what to do when the lid is closed. As you say not a great thing to do, but is possible. When the fan pulls air through the laptop it is often pulled down through the keyboard. Having the lid down not only prevents air flowing through in this way but also effectively insulates the machine causing a double whammy in the overheating stakes. I woudl not advise trying to do it, and i would doubt you could set the machine to stop it going into standby or turning off if you shut the lid. hth Mark Threadgold Of all the things I have ever lost, The one I miss most is my mind... _____ From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Eleanor Burke Sent: 25 July 2009 20:27 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Lap Top and External VDU Hi If I want to use my lapt top and an external large screen, external keyboard and external mouse, do I have to keep the laptop open? I know about fixing the screen on the laptop so that I am just looking at the screen on the external monitor.
