Steve, thanks for that answer, it answers most of the questions I needed to know. I hope the upgrade will make the Kindle more accessible. Hope you will keep us all updated on the progress of that upgrade.

Thanks.
Jim

Kindle Fire 7 inch, which is the only Fire available in the UK, has text-to-speech for book content, but there's no way to turn it on without being able to use the touch screen.

In the US there is also a Kindle Fire 8.9 inch which apparently has more extensive speech functions, but it's not clear how extensive these are.

The UK version is rumoured to be getting an upgrade this month or next to bring it into line with the larger unit. We'll know more when that upgrade happens. I'm checking for it most days.

With regard to colour and text size, the Kindle Fire 7 inch has the usual options for book content found on a tablet device - three colour modes (standard, inverse and sepia), a range of font shapes and sizes, and some line spacing and margin options. Also in common with other tablets, these features don't extend to the library or store screens.

I haven't played around with installing apps to make it accessible. I'm haven't heard of anyone who's done this, or even of any apps that might improve its accessibility. If someone can suggest apps to try, I'm happy to give them a go so long as they are free and I don't have to jailbreak the device.

Steve
