less than 2 weeks ago and they confirmed that the 100w has voice prompts.
they said that this model and the 110 were the only phones they have ever had
with this function and that they no longer manufacture the 110 model.
i no longer have the original manual to confirm what it said as it was a
printed version which someone read to me as once i had the voice prompt turned
on i didn't need it any more.
i'm still wondering if they have changed the specifications since i got mine in
2011 as the odd thing in their description isn't the same as my handset.
the person who i called them for called them himself yesterday using a
different phone number [not an 0800 number and spoke to sales while the number
i called is their support line and they told him they didn't know anything
about it having voice prompts.

but i've just checked how easy it is to do and i turned off the voice prompts
while it was speaking and then turned it back on without speach.
the way to do this is done using the arrow keys plus the 2 buttons above the
arrow keys on the left and the right.
the one on the left is known as the A button and the one on the right is the
B key.
the A key takes you into the settings menu and also works as the back key to
step back out of sub menus and as a delete key when editing input fields.
the B key is the equivelent of the enter key to go into sub menus or to
choose a setting.
the voice prompt setting is in the tools sub menu off of the main menu and is
the botton item off two items.
so to turn voice prompts on you do the following sequence.
1 press the A key to go into the main menu
2 press the up arrow key once as the tools sub menu is the bottom item in the
list.
3 press the B key to go into the tools sub menu.
4 press the down arrow key once to highlight the voice prompt setting.
5 press the B key to enter the voice prompt selection.
6 press the up arrow key once to highlight the on selection.
7 press the B key to activate the voice prompts.
everything is now talking and you can use the A key to back out of the menus.
as far as low battery warning is concerned it's a mixture.
it has a low battery warning light but within the handset sub menu you can
also turn on beeps.
with the beeps the manual says you can only hear them while actually on a
call but another way of telling is that if the battery is getting low you can't
turn on speaker phone.
we keep our phones on their charging base so we don't normally hear the low
battery warning as you get 10 hours of talk time and 100 hours of standby on a
fall charge.
henry asked about hearing aid compatibility, these phones have their own loop
system built in, have equiliser settings have existing profiles for base and
treble, have a dedicated base boost button and have independant call ringer and
voice volume adjustment along with hands free speaker mode.
my wife wears hearing aids and finds these phones work for her.
i do wonder if the specs for these 100w phones could have changed over the
years as they for instants now say they have 2 dedicated direct memory dial
buttons but mine has 3 of these buttons.
but i did speak to their technical help line about ten days ago for a friend
to confirm they still have the voice prompts and they said they do and that the
only models that have had this feature is the 100w and the 110w and that they
have discontinued the 110w model now.

to begin with? How easy would this be to do without sight?
2.. Are you notified by speech when the phone’s battery is getting low?
On the RNIB Powertel handsets, for example, they just die in mid-conversation
if the battery runs out.

hi steve,
the only thing that doesn't speak is if you want to choose a different ring
tone when adding someone to the phonebook.
so once you turn voice prompts on all buttons and menus speak.
if you go into the settings menu you can cursor up and down the catagories
go in and out of the sub menus and make changes and it speaks everything to you.
you can cursor up and down the most recent incoming and outgoing calls and
it either speaks the numbers or says the persons name if their in the phonebook.
if you want to call someone that is in the phonebook you press a button and
it will anounce the first entry in alphabetical order and if you wanted to call
someone named jane you would just press button 5 and it would jump to the first
name begining with j and then you could cursor down the j's and it would speak
them all.
and as i said the only bit that doesn't speak is when entering or editing a
phonebook entry.
when you go to enter or edit an entry it will speak and ask you to enter
the name and will speak each letter as you enter it, then it will ask you to
enter the number and again will speak each number as you enter it, but the next
2 entries don't speak.
the first one of these is a list of different ring tones if you want to
choose something specific for a particular person, and the second one is to
record your own voice saying the persons name.
so for example once you are in the ring tone list pressing the next button
will activate the microphone for you to start recording, pressing the next
button again will stop the recordingand then when you press it again it will
tell you the entry or changes have been saved.

take a look at the Doro 100w.
you can buy then direct from doro or on amazon.co.uk
on amazon you can buy a single phone with base station for around £35 or
a duo pack for around £60.
of corse there are lots of people charging much more than that on amazon
so be careful which one you click on.
these don't only have talking ID but you can turn voice prompts on which
makes everything on the phones talk.
infact i've just looked at the twin set on amazon and you can now get
them for £51.50 on this url:
