Could you highlight and delete them all then go into the deleted folder and move the ones you want back to the in box?

Subject: [access-uk] Gmail query

I have recently started using Gmail for my mailing lists - but read
the messages in my e-mail client rather than on the web interface. I
know that Google will store an enormous number of messages, but I
would like periodically to delete permanently most of the messages
which accumulate in the Google mail Deleted folder only retaining
those likely to be of future interest. This should (I hope) speed up
searches for messages in the distant future.

However when I open the Deleted folder (or any folder in fact) I seem
to have to go through all the messages I want to delete permanently
and select them individually, a very tedious process. What I would
prefer to do would be to select All and then uncheck the odd messages
I wish to keep. It seems however that Google have not provided a
Select All button, or that even in the Basic interface provided for
screen reader users it is not accessible.

If any experienced Gmail user could clarify this point I would be
most grateful.
