How comes that this isn't out there in the general media? For years people
have been talking about the prospect of a non-cash society but I hadn't
realised it was actually a Government aim.

We went to Sweden last year is is mostly a cash-free zone, so it has taken
place elsewhere. It would be interesting to know what problems they may have
had.

I also heard that Guide Dogs were experimenting (I forget where) with their
street collectors having chip and pin devices o passersby could make
donations via their credit cards, the same way that they might pay for a bus
or tube fare.

I have had a call from the Consumers Association, and their primary concern
is the demise of Cash machines.

I am expecting another call in regards to the alarming wording which
suggests that the cash in one's pocket will disappear.

Moderator here.

I more than suspect this is spam.

I am a member of the Consumer Association and have a call in with them to
explain what exactly they mean here.

I hope the modirator will allow this non-techy subject message to pass.

Jim -

Unless there is urgent government intervention, cash will disappear from the
UK in two years.* We're not ready for this.

The upcoming Budget will decide the future of cash. The government has a
huge opportunity here to protect this crucial payment method for the
millions of people who rely on it. Changing the law is the only way to save
cash - but there's a risk the government may do nothing.

Should the government protect cash in the upcoming Budget?
