Subject: [Reader-users] New Reader software announced

All -- This is an important announcement about upgrading your knfbReader
mobile to version 6.1.11. Many of you will want to install this upgrade on
your own, but some may prefer to receive help from one of our distributors
instead. This message should help you decide how to proceed with getting
the latest software version installed and activated on your phone. For
those who need help with the upgrade, please contact your Mobile Reader
distributor for assistance.

Before going further, you need to know that this upgrade process only
applies if the user language of your Reader is either U.S. or U.K. English.
Please consult your Mobile Reader distributor about receiving an upgrade if
the user language of your Reader is not U.S.or U.K. English. The user
language is the language of the system prompts and documentation files on
your phone, not the additional text reading languages which you may have
chosen from our language pack list.

UPGRADE NOTICE

This notice announces the release of version 6.1 .11 for the kReader and the
knfbReader Mobile software which is being issued to replace version 6.1.9,
effective August 10, 2009. All dealers and Mobile Reader users should
proceed to install and activate version 6.1 .11 to ensure best
functionality. This new version is now being shipped with all new product
packages and is also available for download at:

http://knfbreader.com/upgrades_mobile.php

Detailed procedures which must be followed to install and activate the
Mobile Reader software are available in the documentation section of the
download page. These procedures should be followed carefully to ensure
correct installation. Please note that any previous version of the Mobile
Reader software must be removed from the phone before installing version 6.1
.11. This upgrade is being provided free of charge to all dealers and Mobile
Reader users regardless of the time of purchase.

PURPOSE OF UPGRADE

Version 6.1 .11 is intended to improve operation of the Mobile Reader
software by fixing several known problems found through continuous testing
and reports of end-users. Also, this upgrade adds text reading and language
translation for Turkish and Brazilian Portuguese, bringing the total number
of Mobile Reader languages to 18.

Effective with version 6.1 .11, Mobile Readers licensed for Spanish or
Canadian French as the primary "user language" will be available from K-NFB
reading technology. All system prompts and documentation will be presented
in the language specified. The "user language" - US English, Canadian French
or Spanish must be chosen at the time of purchase. This means, for example,
that readers purchased by Spanish speakers in the US will now be able to
translate English text into Spanish with translation turned on if Spanish
was purchased as the user language and English has been purchased as one of
the additional text reading languages. Procedures are being developed for
persons who have already purchased a Mobile Reader licensed for English as
the "user language" to have a one-time opportunity to exchange the English
version for Spanish or Canadian French if they so desire. Current prices for
text-reading language packs beyond the single "user language" installed
still apply.

Effective with version 6.1.11, the Mobile Reader software will also run on
the Nokia N86 in addition to the N82 and 6220 Classic. Previous versions
will not run on the N86. Also, the N86 is our first supported phone to have
an LED, rather than a xenon, flash. However, with an 8 Mega Pixel camera
and more advanced optics, high quality images can still be expected in low
light.

PREPARING FOR THE UPGRADE

Here are things you need:

The user name and password needed to access your Reader account on the
knfbreader.com website. Access to your account is necessary to activate
your reader software the first time you try to use it after installation.
Your Mobile Reader license (or serial number) has been registered in a
specific account which can only be entered with the unique user name and
password assigned when the account was set up. You need to enter this
account in order to download your new software. Please contact your Mobile
Reader distributor to obtain your account log-in information if you don't
have what you need.

The serial number of your Reader. You will need your serial number to
complete activation of the software the first time you start the Reader
after installation. You can find your serial number on the outside of the
product package, both in Braille and in print. The serial number consists
of a series of letters and may also include some additional numbers on the
end. If you have your user name and password for the website you can also
get your serial number by logging in at the "My Reader" link and going to
the "Manage my licenses" page.

Read installation instructions carefully. Detailed instructions have been
posted on the website to help everyone perform the upgrade correctly.
Failure to follow the instructions is likely to result in an incorrect
installation with the Reader failing to function as intended.

Be sure to uninstall the previous version of your Mobile Reader software
before installing the upgrade. This point has already been mentioned and is
emphasized in the instructions.

INSTALLING SOFTWARE ON YOUR PHONE

All the files you need are found on the "Manage my licenses" page which you
can access after logging in to your account. This will take you to the page
which displays all software download files available, as well as a link to
"Get an Activation Code" which is used after installing the software.

The first file you need to install for the upgrade is called:

003> knfbReader_v_6_1_11.sis

You can install software on your phone by connecting it to a computer which
has the software and by following the steps below, or you can copy the files
you want to install to the memory card of the phone and then install each
program by going to the file name through your phone's file manager and then
pressing enter to start the installation. To install directly from a PC,
connect your phone to the computer used for downloading software using the
provided USB cable and choose "PC Suite" from the options on the phone when
you first connect the cable. Press enter on the file name for the Reader
application to start the installation. Be sure you have the Nokia
communications program called PC Suite installed on your computer. However,
you will not need to interact with this program while the software is being
installed.

Please note that your computer will normally respond "Nokia Application
installer" immediately after you press enter to begin the process. Respond
to this prompt by pressing enter again, and your interaction will then shift
to the phone. Except for one choice mentioned below, press left select to
make an affirmative response to all prompts that appear as the process
continues. You can cancel the installation process by pressing right select
at any prompt, but your software will not be installed and the Reader will
not operate.

The choice referred to above is whether to install the programs to the phone
memory or to the memory card. The choice you make must be the same for all
files installed. You can choose the phone memory if English is the only
language pack you are installing. Otherwise, you should press down arrow to
choose the memory card when the prompt appears during the installation
setup. Your license includes text reading languages in addition to English
if your serial number is only 9 letters, or if the first number after the
letters is higher than 001.

The second file to install is your user language pack, either U. S. or U. K.
English. The U. S. language pack is called:

<http://knfbreader.com/download.php?f=Reader_ENU_7_1_1.sis&s=MJZ-KRU-FWZ-003> Reader_ENU_7_1_1.sis

The U. K. language pack is called:

<http://knfbreader.com/download.php?f=Reader_ENG_7_5_1.sis&s=MJZ-KRU-FWZ-003> Reader_ENG_7_5_1.sis

The third file to install is the user guide and other updated documentation
for version 6.1.11. The U.S. English documentation file is called:

JZ-KRU-FWZ-003> Reader_Documentation_Files_ENU.sis

The U.K. English documentation file is called:

JZ-KRU-FWZ-003> Reader_Documentation_Files_ENG.sis

After installing these files, the next step is activation for users whose
only language is English. Users who want additional text reading languages
can proceed to install them from the language pack list, provided the limit
of additional languages is not exceeded according to your license. Users
with no numbers in the license are allowed to have English plus two
additional text reading languages.

SOFTWARE ACTIVATION

After you have installed the new software you will need to follow the
activation steps the first time you start the Reader. Once the program has
started, press the left selection key when prompted and follow the
activation steps as instructed. Activation details are available in the
installation instructions. Once you have entered the series of numbers
required to fill in the field on the software activation page, followed by
entering the activation code from the next page into your phone, using the
keypad, press left select. If the numbers were entered correctly the Reader
will so advise. Then press left select again to continue using the Reader.
This process will not be repeated the next time you start the Reader.
