It is called the Ring Doorbell. The unit comes with a back-plate which needs to
be screwed onto the door, doorpost or wall. As it has a camera it is larger
than a normal bell-push. It has a wide-angle lens so can take in quite a large
area. There is a button to push like any doorbell but it can also be set to
trigger with motion on selected parts of the screen at a selected distance. It
would work fine on the door of a flat so long as it is within range of your
wi-fi. My router is at the other end of the house and it still gets a signal.

I’m not sure if this is what you are looking for so hopefully you will get
other suggestions but I am using the Ring doorbell which has plus’s and
minus’s. It’s a video doorbell, so it’s relatively expensive at £160. It works
on Wi-Fi and remotely on your phone if you have the bandwidth. It is accessible
on IOS devices and you can have a two-way conversation using your iPhone. It
can also be set up as a motion detector so that someone approaching your door
will set it off.
On the debit side apart from the price and potentially unnecessary video I
find the app sluggish when I want to answer from my phone. Although most of the
buttons can be swiped to, the answer button has to be located directly on the
screen before it can be tapped. It always appears in the same place though. It
is not particularly easy to set up but once done all the functions are
accessible. I am sure there are cheaper bell only ones out there if that is
what you are looking for so hopefully there will be other suggestions.

anyone know which doorbell apps are accessible, there seem to be a good few
out there, also, where would i buy the actual doorbell unit from which i'd have
to pair up with the phone .
my new guide dog loves sunning herself in the back garden and i can't hear my
current doorbell from there and so my idea is to get something so i can sit out
in the garden with her, won't do me any harm to get more fresh air
