I don’t normally do this but thought this post I made on the BCAB may be of
interest here also.
A few weeks ago I reminded people of the excellent Blindy TV Service.
This is essentially an Internet Radio Stream Service focussed on delivering
audio only TV content in a form suitable for blind and partially sighted users.
Wherever available the Audio Description channel is provided or the program is
able to be followed with the existing audio narration, for example in a
documentary.
I was pleased recently to stumble across a similar service. This is called “The
Listen Factor” and is again a service committed to providing content to Blind
and partially sighted users via Internet Radio Stream.
It seems very similar to Blindy TV but with the exception that there appears to
be a dedicated AD Film channel, I listened to the three Faces of Eve last
night, and there is also a Radio only OTR and less valuably a music channel.
The good news is that there are 8 Channels which can now be added to the Choice
provided by the Blindy TV service.
A cautionary word is that some of the Channel titles are slightly misleading –
making reference to film “soundtracks”. As music is played between
presentations of AD content I was initially misled into thinking that these
were channels specialising in music only soundtracks from films. This is not
the case, Soundtrack is the word they ascribe to the audio only output from a
film or a program. If you hear music this is, I believe, simply to fill in
gaps between programs
All the channels are available in the radio database for the VR Stream and
Trek.
I assume that as the Trek uses O Tunes similar access will be available on
Mobile phones via Tunein etc.
I have yet to investigate whether Streams can be imported into Plextalk and
other devices.

Anyway I think it is an important new resource in the AD field.
