hi steve,
from memory i'mm %99 sure it does as it puts the bookmark on the actual USB
drive.
it was a year ago when i tested it out and neither my wife or myself have books
on USB sticks anymore as we use the Cal download app.
it was one of those devices you buy and wonder if it will be any good and are
then plesently supprised just how good it is.

Hi Pete,
Does it remember where you left off on several media?
For example, if I unplug a USB key and plug another one in then start
playing, will it remember my place on the first key?
All the best
Steve

hi roger,
it's worth taking a look at:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01EA74R7K/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this is a small portable radio/media player that accepts USB memory sticks
and SD memory cards, has a built in AM/FM radio headphone socket, works from
both the mains via a usb lead and via the rechargeable and replaceable
battery and has push button tuning.
it is extremely well made and has amazing sound for such a small device.
it's available in black, blue, gold, or red.
it's been tested with calibre memory sticks and works well including
remembering where you pause the book.
my wife wears hearing aids and has no problem with the sound infact she finds
it very good as well.
it costs £16 to £17 depending on which colour you select with free delivery.
hope this helps.
