If you use Birmingham New Street station and have any thoughts about the concourse announcements there, you might be interested in the following message. Steve -----Original Message----- From: Swift, Rebecca Sent: 23 October 2009 13:18 To: #Birmingham JBS Action Users; #Birmingham Users Subject: Pre-announcements at New Street Station Hello all As of today Network Rail have agreed to turn some of the pre-announcements on the concourse at New Street station for a trail period. Prior to the announcements being switched off there were two announcements per train - one which took place a few minutes before the train left/arrived at a platform and then one 30 secs to a minute before the train left. The announcement that has been switched back on is the one that give people a few minutes to get down to the platform - the other one has not been switched back on as it was thought that this one didn't serve a great deal of purpose as it did not give people enough time to get from the concourse to the platform. Essentially, half the announcements have been switched back on. I am coordinating the feedback and response to this trial therefore I am asking for as many comments as possible regarding this to be fed back to me, both from sighted and partially sighted and blind users of the train station. I feel that this is significant progress with Network Rail and therefore it is essential that I gather as much feedback as possible as to whether this works for people. It is very important that all feedback is fed through me so that I know what information is going back to Network Rail. The main points to think about at the moment are the following: Whether you find the station easier or harder to use with the announcements that are back on now than without them. Whether you feel more confident using the station now than before without the announcements. Whether the station is easier, harder or the same to use now than when the full quota of announcements was used (before they were switched off) Whether you find the one announcement per train is enough to be able to locate platform etc. And any other comments you may have. Please pass this on to people you feel may be interested, but again please make clear that it is very important for comments to be fed through me. Also, if anyone has any ideas on how we can gather feedback please let me know.
