Hi Janet.

OK, this is worth a shot anyway, but try setting up your phone's outgoing server settings to match those on your PC before you leave home and if you've the time, send a quick test email. My hunch is that Plusnet do allow for authenticated outbound email, so make sure authentication is enabled and if it asks for a username and password as part of the authentication process, these are most likely to be the same as your incoming server's login details.

All the best and good luck. As I say, this should work and I'd be surprised if it didn't.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi, I'm with Plusnet. I'm using their email account rather than setting up
a new email address with Vodafone as I want to access all my emails I
currently receive, such as ones from lists I am on as well as personal
emails. For incoming email I'm using the server that I'd use when receiving email using Outlook. To send emails I'm using send.vodafone.net as this is
what someone told me I needed to use. No, I haven't checked with my ISP
about whether they allow emailing, but I do know of other people who send
email from their phone. I should give them a ring just to make sure. I do
receive the emails on my phone and I can send them, but they seem to hang
around for ages in my Outbox before finally being sent and they do turn up
in the end.

Hi Janet.

Are you using Vodafone's own SMTP server or your email providers? Who is
your email provider and have you checked with them as to whether they allow
authenticated connections from devices not directly connected to the
internet through them?

All the best, Ibrahim.

Subject: [access-uk] Email query on a Nokia N86

Hi all

I have a Nokia N86 which has been set up for email (I'm on a SIM only
contract with Vodafone). I can send emails from it, but it takes ages for
them to be sent and sometimes they don't appear for a couple of weeks.
Does
anyone know why this should happen, it's really annoying because it means
that I can't answer important emails from my phone as I can never tell how
long it will take the reply to get there.

I'm going away later today and the only Internet connect I'll have access
to
will be my phone, but I'll be able to read any answers you may have.

Cheers
