I seem to be having a bad day technology wise but after reading of the improvements in Chrome I decided to make it my default browser this morning.

The result was pretty poor really. Using the latest version of Jaws 17 I went to the Sainsbury's web site and after struggling for about 30 minutes gave up. I shut down Jaws and reloaded Jaws to no avail. i then reloaded the page and then Chrome completely. I then restarted my PC. I then switched from Jaws to NVDA with no improvement. I then made sure that the Chrome windows were maximised again to no avail.

Basically the characteristics of the problem was that neither Jaws nor NVDA was able to execute links consistently. . Frequently I had to resort to the Elements List in NVDA and the Links list in Jaws and even then this often did not work. For example I found it impossible to execute the book slot link. I found that the only consistently reliable way to open links in Chrome with Jaws and NVDA was to tab to the link, bring up a context menu and then select open in new window. I had to do this to open my accounts page on the Sainsburys site for example.

Just to make sure that there was nothing weird about the site I then re-instated Firefox as my default and reopened the same Sainsbury's site. Then all the links opened normally as you would expect with both Jaws and NVDA.

So Chrome obviously does not like me. I am using Windows 10 with latest builds of Jaws 17 and NVDA.

The Kindle for Mac app does not like me either as this is also apparently working fine for others.

Freedom Scientific have been working with Google to make their products work

I see Google still recommend using Firefox with a screen reader when you use
their services. Perhaps they’ve just not got around to updating their  help

It's a lot better than it used to be with JAWS.

Thanks for getting back Mo.

It's for accessing TV on line here in the ROI and I hear Chrome is good with
dealing with flash as well as Firefox I do believe.

Best,

Hi Tony.
In my experience, jaws has not been accessible to be honest with
Chrome. I'm not sure what others think, but i've had the best results
with IE and firefox to be honest. Is there any particular reason
you're thinking of switching?

cheers,

Mo.

Hi folk,

Was thinking of switching my web browser from IE 11 to Chrome using
Jaws 15 and windows 7.

I think Chrome certainly wasn't accessible with screen readers but
now it's fine in that regard II I now hear.

Now is there anything in particular I need to know about chrome
and/or   good keystrokes you would like to pass on?

Thanks for any assist with this,

Best,
