Well,I have tried this page on both my iPhone and on my PC with JAWS and
NVDA using Firefox, Chrome and IE11. I can't find any area of the site
where there is any sound other than screenreader speech. The only
problem I can find is that there is an extra space in the Podcast URLs.

That silenced the audio. I can see why people would find it difficult as the

also say that I noticed other controls further down the page separate from the
pause/play and mute buttons at the very top.
Using the latest IE I had to accept the plugin before the audio would start but
once I did there were no controls on the web page to stop it. Quite by accident
I found that pressing the escape key stopped the audio playback. But then
there's no way to start it again. There didn't appear to be any controls at all.

This post came from a conversation where a screenreader user said that
if I as I was contacting PlayBack, could I mention that their autoplay
makes it difficult for screenreader users, as he had tried to contact
them and go no reply. So I tried it myself, found the same, mentioned
it as part of my email, and got pretty short shrift in reply!
The person I was speaking who brought this to my attention uses IE and
Jaws on Windows 7. There is a recording below I just made - the first
15 seconds is what I hear with Chromevox, the remainder of the minute
is with Firefox and NVDA.

The reason I posted here was in case me and screenreader user were
doing something wrong.
Looking at the page code, it looks like it is a microsoft embedded
plugin so it might be Mac users that don't get autoplay - all the
controls, visibility and so on are hidden, and the audio is set to
autoplay in the background on page load, so I cannot see any way that
a user could stop the playback.
For the people who say they can hear the music AND use their
screenreader with no problem, I salute you! This would do my head in
after a while :)
So my question to you would then be as follow: the embedded hidden
player is loading on page load, then there is a second visible player
below with the controls, so to get the playback controls you have to
start the second visible instance.
For the people saying there's no problem, how are you getting playback
controls working on the autostarted audio?
