As far as I am aware the Freedom Pass conditions only allow free train
travel in the local London area, equivalent to the area more or less also
covered by the Tube network. This is certainly true for Freedom Passes
issued in London, I am not sure of the conditions elsewhere.
The English Freedom Pass scheme does not entitle you to travel freely on
public transport in Wales and I believe this also applies to Scotland.
There are no formal provisions for assisted train fares for Carers of
disabled people with the Freedom Pass, but I believe that if you provide
evidence of blind registration at the ticket office there used to be some
provision for assisted fares for carers. I have not done this for years and
I am not sure this is still current.
On the whole if you want to use trains and have assistance with a Carer
your best bet is to buy a Disabled Rail Card which can be purchased on a
yearly or three yearly basis. This provides discounts
not just for you but any carer as well.
