I second Jonathan's suggestion for the exact same reason. A friendly and a
very helpful customer support UK based teem. Not that you'll need to call
them often!

Plusnet. Not least because they have broadband from £6 a month and when you
call their call centre, you get a cheery Yorkshire greeting - not exactly
"Ay Up!" but beats the pants off the overseas call centre hell that BT make
you endure :)

Not saying it's perfect, but I've only had 2 problems in 5 years.
