[access-uk] Anti-spyware program

Hi all,
When I renew my license for Nod32 next year, I will probably buy the security
package provided the version available is reasonable accessible. In the
meantime I'd like to install an anti-spyware program, unobtrusive, doing its
stuff automatically the way anti-virus software operates, reasonably accessible
with JFW 9 and preferably free. Is this too much to ask? Can any of you
recommend anything to fit my bill?
How does Microsoft Windows defender compares with Spybot? what's the latest
version of this? Is it better than 1.4? it used to run very slow on my old
machine, Is it still the best to use?
Any thoughts/comments very welcomed.
