It also occurs to me that the keystrokes for adjusting volume and pan conflict with mouse shortcuts in Jaws. Try putting Jaws into suspend mode and then try the keystrokes. I normally don't have speech active when playing audio anyway and only turn it back on when I need to navigate to a menu or control.

Hi Paul, Thanks for that but when I tried it, jaws only reported mouse left or right or up or down. There was no audio change. I was focused on the track and tried selecting it as well but nothing affected it. Steve, 1. Selecting parts of a track. I found this problem too and discovered that when I first move to a track, pressing the right arrow and then the left arrow before playing or making a selection ensures that the part you select will be the only area which is edited. 2. When focused on a track, press alt shift up and down arrows to adjust the volume of that track in 1dB steps. Alt shift left and right arrows adjust track pan. Your help was invaluable before David, I've now gotten off the ground and able to multi track on Audacity but I'm banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to select parts of a track to delete or apply some effects to. I'm really getting a bit frustrated now smiles. I've looked at the jaws guide and I seem to follow the instructions but I'm deleting the whole content of the track and not just the bit I want. I also am trying to find out how to adjust the individual level of the tracks. Any help would be gratefully received! Smiles Steve
