Hi Keith, Yes, for Amexes I think you need the number on the front of the card above the credit card number. Sorry, I don't know why it wouldn't work. I thought it was the 4 digit number on the front of the amex card but it rejected that. Also rejected the last 3 digits on the back so not sure what is wrong with it.
