Just to be clear, I *do* understand the logic behind a high drop and the
disadvantages of doing a low shallow drop. I was just saying that the 'wait
until it appears behind your wing' method recommended for the Spit IX does not
work with the Yaks and in real life Yaks did shallow dives and I know I can hit
a single vehicle or gun doing that. I am sure if I practiced some more I
could find a repeatable methodology for the Yak *That Works For Me* to make a
reasonably accurate drop on a large target starting from 3.5 Km and dropping at
2 Km to reduce my risk of getting hit by AAA or defending fighters.
Note that I stressed 'That Works For Me' though. Really, even for the Spit
the methodology should be simplified to 'Dive Steeply from as near above the
target as you can manage and drop when the sight picture is correct for *you*'
Sure you can use other peoples advice as a starting point but no one method is
going to work for everyone so all you can do is practice, practice, practice so
you can see what works for you personally. IFlyCentral did a video last week
demonstrating how to use the gunsight on the IL2 to gets hits with rockets
every time from as far as 800m out and in his video it worked brilliantly but
following his exact methodology my rockets were missing by a huge margin
because even if we hold a common attack speed we all naturally choose slightly
different dive angles and it throws everything out. Same with earlier videos
I once watched to see how some people were able to get 8 tank kills in a sortie
just using guns; Using their recommended speeds, angles and sight pictures
just did not give me the same results so I worked out my own.
Roblex
ps. I *might* be able to get BoBp at the end of this week as I have had an
unexpected £100 windfall. My wife is unaware I have that money so won't know if
I use it for BoBp :-) I just have to wait to see if it is still there on
payday.

And there you see the problem in a nutshell, 3 pilots 4 different solutions,
then Roblex prefers shallow dive - I often prefer that.
