I reckon the capto gloves, that track and display your hand and fingers, would
really add to the immersion. They support them in DCS but I don't use that and
they don't have clickable cockpits in IL-2 so I'll stick with the gameplay and
overall brilliance of il-2 over dcs’s vr functionality.

I agree. Clickable cockpits are not just useful outside of VR for saving you
the trouble of assigning and remembering key combos for obscure switches you
might only need twice a year but it also makes it possible to fly in VR
without having to peek out of the headset or find buttons by touch. You only
need the most basic of VR gloves for that though the mouse will still do in a
pinch. I was thinking that finding 37 buttons by touch on your hotas must be
a little fiddly at times then counted that I have 45 separate key combos
mapped to my own HOTAS though admittedly they are assigned to only 20
buttons/switches etc.
Unfortunately Jason has been pretty emphatic that there are no plans to do
it. I understand that it probably means pretty much redesigning every
cockpit and a large amount of the core code and he does not have the
resources to do that but it is a shame because when VR takes off it could
mean the death of BoX. We can only pray that there is something as good as
BoX but with clickable cockpits by then or that DCS has improved the actual
gameplay by then.

Thanks, interesting but a lot of work for no gain for me I think, I have all
I need on my HOTAS. DCS is a bit ahead if the game with clickable cockpits
just a shame the rest of DCS is not very immersive, might look at the new
damage model if/when it turns up but tbh the rubbish Normandy map is the
biggest downside for me

I did not read it all as I don't have VR but here is the thread which
includes videos of it being used in an A10 and a 109.

What is this software called?
We are not seeing the monitor, it would be impossible to touch a certain
spot on the monitor and it would be equally impossible to assign an area of
the eyepieces.

Pretty sure it is designed primarily for VR. You are seeing the screen but
just two versions of it. Not sure how it handles the parallax unless you
define the regions while in VR.

And it must work differently in VR as you don’t see the screen!?

I saw some software yesterday that allows you to define clickable areas on
the screen and assign kb shortcuts to them eg put a box over the 'jettison
ordnance' switch and when you click on it Sh-D gets sent to the game.
Apparently works either with vr glove or mouse click.

just how many do you need?
Bart and I use about 37 in total, about 22 on the stick and 15 or so on
the throttle, all by touch of course, until the game supports VR gloves
like DCS does :)

Here on ebay.
Not of interest to VRers, of course.
