I am afraid I am not really an option at this point in time as I have really
lost interest in the game and it will take at least few months more before I
start to miss flying and come back. It is inevitable that it will happen some
time in 2020 but I also don't have any interest in buying the Normandy package
in the foreseeable future which could be a problem for a C/O :-)
I am surprised, and flattered, that Phoenix would suggest me because I have
often stated that I feel the squad needs to loosen up and just get up and have
some fun more often which goes against what the majority of our members want
from their squad nights. The most fun I ever had was on non squadnights when a
few of us would randomly meet up and just throw together a vague mutually
agreed plan in 30 seconds and head out. To be honest, the sheer frustration
of us spending 10 minutes planning a raid in minute detail and five minutes
forming up for a pretty take-off only to see the target destroyed before we had
gone 2 miles was probably a major factor in me losing interest. I honestly
came close to just faking a network problem and logging off on more than one
occasion because I was so wound up. I hasten to add that I am not blaming Cina
as he was just agreeing to what the majority appeared to want. I do believe
in pairs discipline etc. and having agreed procedures on how to attack and
withdraw but I prefer 'Pairs flying in collaboration with other pairs' rather
than 'Pairs as a strictly defined part of a formation' and I believe squadron
level discipline would follow naturally from that in time. Imagine two of you
flying with another squadron in a special event; they don't tell you what you
should be doing, though they might ask, and you don't tell them that they are
doing is wrong, though you might politely suggest alternatives.
Anyway the TL:DR version (Too Long: Didn't read) is that I need a break to come
back again with enthusiasm and even being made C/O and given free reign won't
drag me back yet.
On the plus side, I am probably going to get a small cash influx following my
fathers passing a few months back so if some of it ends up being spent on a
better PC with VR then I will probably be eager to come back just to fly in VR.

Gentlemen - it seems to me we have a little impasse on the choice of CO for
2020.
Several names have been put forward, but none of these have actually said they
want to do the job.
I'm going to be a little forthright and express my views about them:
Colin has a lot to offer on tactics, training, squad discipline and we'd be a
sharper squad as a result. My concern about Colin is that he hasn't flown as a
full squad member for as long as I remember. Therefore, for the rest of the
squad he'd be rather a shot -in-the-dark. Personally, I'd be happy to serve
under Colin provided he showed some period (weeks maybe) of flying as a full
squad member while Cina or other act as caretakers.
Talisman has been CO before in the earlyish CloD days (was it after Witch?) and
built up a good set of operating procedures in the BoB environment. He's also a
tenacious attacker. His recent response to being put forward has been a little
lukewarm. I'd happily serve under him.
Roblex has improved hugely since he joined when Talisman was CO and in my mind
is definitely in the running to be CO very soon. If he expresses real interest
in doing the job, I'd happily serve under him.
So for me the decider is who ever has the best set of ideas to take the squad
forward.
While BoX/Great Battles has been developing well, to my mind there is a bit of
a hole in the centre where satisfying Servers/Coops/Missions/ Campaigns have
been a little lacking.
So may we hear from the potential candidates about their ideas?
Finally - it's not an easy job! I know I never quite achieved as much as I
hoped when I did it. Herding cats is an understatement, with everyone
expecting something slightly different. The one this we need to avoid is drift
and a lack of direction and leadership in the squad.
