Well, I did say that dive bombing could be done. However, I messed my dive up
badly with you and Cina last night, LOL.
Next time I must remember to fully close the throttle and pull up to wing over
and bleed off airspeed as much as possible before entering the dive.
Must keep the ball well centred in the dive as well, or bombs will fall to the
side of the target for a complete miss.
I think that we should try and perfect this type of attack more. Dropping at
approximately 10,000 ft and zooming up when possible can be a good tactic with
the P.38; I nearly shot down a Dora a few evenings back after I had zoomed up
and out-turned him at the top as he followed me up on my six and tried to get
his guns on me. Trouble was, there was 2 of them and I was on my own, so his
mate got me :( Still, survived and parachuted on my side of the line. It is
very satisfying to hit a target with such an attack profile, but difficult to
be accurate every time, as in real life.
Also had great success with a low level mission the other evening, destroying
19 buildings and returning home after a round trip time of 58 minutes.
I am loving the P.38 in VR and it is making me yearn for the Mosquito!
Happy landings,
Talisman

I just flew a solo, "vertical stealth" mission on Combat Box.
With 6x500 lb bombs and 70% fuel, I climbed smartly to 23,000 ft, then
powered along.
Went by Cina's route via Aachen, then north to the jet fuel depot.
Dived vertically from 23,000 ft, dropped all six bombs, pulled out at
10,000 ft.
Power climbed on WEP back to 22,000 ft, and flew home.
I honestly think virtually nothing could have touched me! I was so fast,
so high, climbing so hard.
Destroyed 5 buildings.
