I looked at the tacview I was around 1500m Witch and Moose 1800-1900m, you were
around 1900m, so you looked high to me;). So really like you said we were
co-alt :). We had used quite a bit of ammo up on getting those IL2’s, so it
would have been an even call. I would actually given the advantage to the
LaGG-3 as it turns better than the F2, and the F2 has not got the power of the
F4, as it has got the same engine as the E7. The F2 would struggle to get away
from the LaGG at that altitude in vertical manoeuvers, level speed, etc. The
only slight advantage the F2 has is its VNE, and you need altitude to make the
most of that, or a sustained climb, especially over 3000m.
We flew against TUS squad a good while back, they flew LaGGs, we were in E7’s,
the E7’s were a slightly better turner, the E7 is not getting away from the
LaGG. Like I have said the first two maps on Finnish if anything gives the
soviets the edge over the E7 or F2, in most scenarios, it is really close. It
boils down to the tactical position/scenario that will decide the out come. If
all things are equal and below the 3000m, I would not be afraid of taking on
the E7/F2 in any soviet aircraft and especially the Yak.

When we spotted you Col we didn't have much /any of an alt advantage though,
and two of us were almost out of ammo. And we were in Lagg 3s (although to be
fair it wasn't as bad a plane as I remembered), so we didn't push it.
