[24hoursupport] WIN XP SP 2 reinstallation woes

I am reformatting my HD, repartitioning and reinstalling Win XP Home following
a registry failure I could not repair. I have reached the point where setup
asks for XP Service Pack 1 which I no longer have.
When I put Service Pack 2 in my CD ROM tray and indicate where to find it (K:\)
the install program refuses to continue.
Anybody had this experience and found a remedy?
