Trouble in Toyland: The 20th Annual Survey of Toy Safety

http://www.uspirg.org/issues/toy-safety

Today's site, from ToySafety.net, marks the twentieth anniversary
of this valuable publication and a site worth noting every year.
Readers with young children on their Christmas lists may wish to
consult the report before venturing into the alluring toy aisles
to ensure their purchases
pose no threat to their little recipients.

"The Trouble in Toyland report is the 22nd annual Public Interest
Research Group (PIRG) survey of toy safety. This report provides
safety
guidelines for parents when purchasing toys for small children
and provides examples of toys currently on store shelves that may
pose potential safety hazards." - from the website

The site offers the complete annual report in a downloadable pdf
file. In addition, a summary provides information on the current
state of toy safety in America with cautionary advice about
potential dangers from strangulation, choking, excessively loud
toys, and toxic chemicals in toys, along with less than precise
product warning labels. A "Consumer Tips" section supplies
further helpful information for safe toy purchases, while the
"Toy List" displays specific examples of problematic toys, with a
photo and brief commentary.
