[access-uk] unlocking mobile phone with talks

Hi everyone
firstly, apologies for the cross posting as talks users will see this e-mail
too. I wanna get as much advive as possible.
I'm on Orange pay as you go and own an n-gage phone.
I want to go across to Virgin mobile but I will have to unlock my phone to
do this. I've checked compatability with my phone and the Virgin network on
their website, all good!
just two questions;
first, can someone tell me how the phone is unlocked? what process do you go
through to get it unlocked? can any tell me anything about that as, I know
nothing about how a phone is unlocked and what it does to a typical mobile.
Second question is; will it have any adverse effects on talks at all? I
have talks on the mem card and not the sim mind you. So, I just need a
little info based on others experiences with this and maybe a little
assurance that it's not gonna be a very messy process.
