Dear club colleagues, some items of news and information that I hope will be of
interest to you and your club members, and I would appreciate if you would pass
this onto them.
Wellesley House School contact with ISS
This Saturday the 23rd of April, is the turn of students of the Wellseley House
School at Broadstairs to contact Tim Peake on the ISS.
The live contact is scheduled to begin at 12.10 UTC though a live video stream
from the school will start a little before then, and can be viewed at
https://principia.ariss.org/live/ If you are interested in listening live ;
on-air to part of the contact, the downlink will be on 145.800MHz FM.
A program of activities have been arranged with the school culminating in this
contact, which has already included training for some students to obtain an
amateur licence, and on Friday many of the students will be learning more of
electronics and radio, through working in a buildathon class to construct a
radio receiver.
Support for the school in the many activities has been through members of the
Hilderstone Radio & Electronics Club from Broadstairs, and we look forward to
seeing the report and pictures of the event in the next edition of RadCom.
New RSGB General Manager
The new RSGB General Manager has been announced as Steve Thomas M1ACB, who was
formally the RSGB DRM for Suffolk before taking on the role as Regional Manager
for Eastern England, Region 12, that used to include Kent.
Steve has now been appointed to take over the role of RSGB General Manager from
Graham Coomber G0NBI, who steps down at the end of April after giving Steve a
handover of the role. Before Kent moved into its current RSGB region 10, Steve
was our RM and has previously visited some of the clubs in the county, so will
be know to some already.
I am sure we all wish Steve well in his new role, and having previously been
engaged at the club/regional level, he will have an awareness of the issues
many clubs have to deal with, and I very much hope the Society will benefit
from Steve's experience.
