Dear club colleagues, principally my update this time is regarding a couple of
club meetings for this week, which I have been asked to share with our clubs
and their wider membership.
Darenth Valley - FT-897 Operation
Today, Wednesday the 27th of January, Mark Kent G8PHM is giving a talk to the
Darenth Valley club members on the popular FT-897 family of radios, their
operation and features behind the menus, together with insights from his
experience of configuring the radio memories with freely available software.
The meeting starts at 8pm and is at the Crockenhill Village Hall, Stones Cross
Rd, Crockenhill, BR8 8JH.
MARTS - ISS and the Sandringham School Contact
This Friday evening the 29th of January, members of the Medway ARTS are having
a talk by Steve Thomas M1ACB the Regional Manager for Eastern England, on "How
the ISS/Tim Peake contacts schools via Amateur Radio."
The talk will be a behind the scenes look at the preparation and how
arrangements were made for this contact, both locally and at Goonhilly Earth
Station, as well as the wider picture involving similar events being held by
other schools over the coming weeks and months.
The meeting is at the Tunbury Hall, Catkin Close, Walderslade, Chatham, ME5
9HP, with doors open from 19.45pm and tea/coffee served around 8pm before the
meeting starts at 8.30pm.
Club of the year
Submission for entries to the 'Club of the Year' competition have been
extended to Friday the 29th of February, so if you need more time to get your
entry together, this is the time to do it.
Entries should comprise of club events undertaken between the 1st of January
and the 31st December 2015, and must be sent to the Regional Manager Mick

The theme of this year’s RSGB Club of the Year competition is Promoting
Amateur Radio, which the COTY application form helps to establish through
appropriate questions.

Local Rallies
Rainham Radio Rally - 28th Feb 2016
Mark this date in your diaries to attend if you can. I shall be along at the
RSGB table, selling books to support our national society and sign up new
members where we can. Do come over and say hello and to support the hobby and
RSGB by purchasing some merchandise or joining/re-joining if your not a member
at this time.

This rally is held at the Rainham Girls School, Derwent Way, Rainham, ME8 0BX.
Doors open from 10am. Talk-in will be on 145.550MHz using callsign GB4RRR.
Dover Rally - 13th Mar 2016
This is another of our established local rallies in Kent, and I hope that many
of you will be able to support this rally.
Full information and a traders booking form if you need one, is available on

Tables are priced at just £12.50 and If booked before the 31st January, they
are priced at just £10 each.
The rally is held at the Whitfield Village Hall, Sandwich Rd, Whitfield,
Dover, CT16 3LY. Entrance is just £2, doors open at 10am and their is an
auction at 12.30pm before the doors then close at 1pm, when the traders pack
up and begin their journeys home.
