With Nov being the 3rd warmest on record, perhaps due to an El Nino effect, it is no surprise that ducks and gulls have not cleared out of the northern lats. In warm early winters in years past we have not seen peak Scaup nos. until mid January with over 20,000 birds; a flock of several hundred Scaup has developed in the past 10 days at North Pt.; Goldeneye arrived about a week ago and scoters have been few. Large gulls can be scanned as they loaf on the docks in McKinley Marina- reached from the drive at the north end of Veterans Park Lagoon. This is best visited in late afternoon as they congregate here after leaving the landfills. We have recently had Thayer's, Glaucous and Lesser Bb along with the many varied plumaged HERGs and ringers.
