Hi all - I have a general curiosity question about a turkey nest. For my noon hour at work I use a walking path that is provided by the company, and about two weeks ago noticed a sitting turkey hen who was on nest for a few days. Then one day she was off nest and I could see 16 eggs in the nest. Trouble is, she has never returned - it has been over a week. Is this a probable nest desertion because the nest was just too close to the walking path, or is it more likely that the hen was victim of a predator while off-nest. The nest is about eight yards from said walking path, and the path is not heavily used. Also, the nest is basically undisturbed but now has only 13 eggs so I assume predators of some sort have found it and taken advantage of the eggs.
