I agree with Tom that this is a Song Sparrow, although the heavy molt has indeed made this individual look pretty ratty! Everything I see fits Song Sparrow, however. Interesting to me is the creamy supercilium and nape and I don't know what to make of that. The bill looks too large for Savannah or Chipping Sparrows, but ok for Song Sparrow. On the second photo it appears that a thick black lateral throat stripe is trying to form in the malar area which supports Song Sparrow. The primaries are rusty, but unlike Swamp Sparrow, the greater coverts are not, which is also ok for Song Sparrow. My feeling is that it is a Song Sparrow, but I am far from certain. It was found this morning in Milwaukee. I did not hear a song. Medium sized sparrow, has streaked chest, solid black bill and pink legs (they looked pink in the field, but here they look more yellow). Can't tell if there is a malnar stripe. Never got a great look at the front of the chest. There was one savannah and a couple of chipping in the area. I though it was a chipping, but the bill isn't right. Then I though song, but I am just not sure. Who can tell me what they think it is and why? Thanks in advance guys. http://www.flickr.com/photos/floresdavid/9681440543/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/floresdavid/9684678414/ David Flores South Milwaukee (Milwaukee on this day) #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
