Nothing too exciting here, but... Took a quick dusktime walk at Retzer Nature Center last night. Lots of golden-crowned kinglets in the Norway spruces along the boardwalk that runs near the road and in the cedars where you park your car. The fen trail is marked as closed due to hunting caution, but it?s not really closed. There (going counter-clockwise) I had a winter wren in the brushy area along the first boardwalk. And I was just thinking about how I?d never had a really good look at one. This one I saw quite well if only for a few brief moments. Sparrows included white-throated (many), fox (1), swamp (1+), song (1+) along with lots of juncos everywhere. As I got back to the car the sun was down and I was walking through those cedars and I flushed something which seemed to continue to move as I tried to look. No clue whether it was something common roosting for the night, or a small owl of some kind, but it sounded like something bigger than a chickadee or sparrow. I went back a little later after dark just to listen and heard what I am guessing was several coyotes yelping loudly from somewhere in there. I have seen one there at Retzer before in the farm field across from the entrance, and also outside our window where we live which is close to Retzer. Oddly there was another person in a car there so I headed out, maybe he was listening to the coyotes... -Mike Duchek, Waukesha, Waukesha Co. #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
