I received a phone call from Daryl Tessen last evening (who arrived on Wisconsin Point on Sunday), with the following report: On Sunday (9/15) there was a 20 mph north wind, resulting in 5-6 foot waves. There were two Parasitic Jaegers seen, often at close range, for about a 5-hour period. Also seen a few times during the day was a juvenile Sabine's Gull. On Monday (9/16) the temps ranged from 33 degrees to the 50s, with some early fog and relatively calm winds. Daryl reported that at least 2-3 Parasitic Jaegers were present, and another individual that appeared smaller than an adjacent Parasitic and with what appeared to be just one white shaft on the outer primaries. They believed it to be a Long-tailed Jaeger. Also spotted were 10 Bonaparte's Gulls and an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull, a few Common Terns, Black-bellied and Am. Golden-Plovers, three Black Scoters and one Surf, Merlins, a Peregrine Falcon, Lapland Longspurs and an American Pipit. He said there there relatively few passerines and sparrows (and no Harris's). This would be a good time to remind attendees to bring warm clothing, including parkas, gloves, a stocking cap, rain gear, warm boots, etc. A porta-potty is supposed to be delivered out there today, and I will be happy to receive any donations toward offsetting that cost. Thanks, and hope to see you up there!
