Roma Lenehan and I led a bird walk at the Lakeshore Nature Preserve this morning. While there weren't a lot of warblers (5 sp.,) we had a nice variety and a good group. Warblers were NASHVILLE, BLACK & WHITE, YELLOW-RUMPED, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT and, after most folks had left, a YELLOW WARBLER singing out by the Class of 1918 Marsh. Only vireo was a WARBLING singing. Other hightlights were a couple of bright male BALTIMORE ORIOLES, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, & GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER. Out on the Biocore Prairie edges, we had two out of three mimids, with a vociferous BROWN THRASHER and GRAY CATBIRD close to one another - unfortunately, we missed the previously reported N. Mockingbird. Also had a couple of WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS in the same area. A BROAD-WINGED HAWK gave a us a nice close flyover there, also. A bit of a surprise was a somewhat late DARK-EYED JUNCO. BLUE JAYS seemed to be migrating through, and there were HOUSE WRENS all over.
