After the Picnic Point walk this morning, Peter Gorman and I went up to Schumacher Rd., where the Glossy Ibis was very cooperative. Also had lots of both YELLOWLEGS sp., and several SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS there. Peter had seen some longspurs out in the fields before I got there, but nothing close that would settle down. There was a solitary SOLITARY SANDPIPER with a few Lesser YLs at Schumacher and County V. DM & I ponds were quiet, as was Harvey and Wangsness - in fact, even with the rain, that place is drying up very quickly. Only shorebirds we found were a few KILLDEER, a couple of PECTORAL SANDPIPERS (one with a mangled leg,) and a flitty flock of Lesser YLs. I went up to Schoeneberg's Marsh next and flushed a GREEN HERON from along Lynch Rd. (might also have had a No. Waterthrush, but I couldn't get a look at it and it didn't sing, so I'm going strictly on the call note.) It was so windy that I opted not to scope the marsh itself. Next stop was Mud Lake Wildlife Area, where BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS had taken over the place, seemingly. Aside from heard-only COMMON YELLOWTHROATS & YELLOW WARBLERS, the only warbler I saw was a single CERULEAN in the same location they were last year. Also had a LEAST FLYCATCHER in the same area. A COOPER'S HAWK was on the same nest as last year, too. I stopped at Goose Pond a bit before 4 p.m., and the two WILLETS were still there along the south shore of the West Pond, along with a few Lesser and one Greater Yellowlegs, plus a few Pecs.
