A very raw day yesterday (4/20) along the Milwaukee lakefront. The high temp while I was at the lakefront was 39 degrees, with a wind-driven mist. But there were a couple of highlights: * There were 100+ Caspian Terns on the ground in Milwaukee's Lakeshore State Park. There's something about their calls that seems very prehistoric. At one point something spooked them all into flight, and the raucous noises they made sounded like they could be used on the soundtrack of a horror movie. Here's a photo of 17 of these birds. Also, notice in the background how the waves are crashing over the breakwater. That wall is maybe 10 feet tall. It was a very blustery day: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14463444@N07/6954326292/in/photostream * A Swamp Sparrow in a non-swamplike spot. There is a VERY small lawn to the east of Milwaukee's Harbor House restaurant. We're talking maybe 8 by 10 feet. Everything else in this spot is paved over. The Swamp Sparrow caught and bolted down a moth. Here's a grainy photo (the lighting was bad, I was being buffeted by high winds, and it was misty): http://www.flickr.com/photos/14463444@N07/7100972331/in/photostream Bernie Sloan Milwaukee #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
