This morning at Sand Bay, end of Waters End Rd, was a LONG-TAILED DUCK near the end of the pier. It was, I believe, an adult female, winter plumage. It didnâ??t have a long tail, back was brown, dark breast, a mostly white head, with random splotches of dark (one on cheek). Bill dark. A rather short duck. Ice is forming on the bay and lake. Not many birds about. A few Goldeneyes. About 25 Swans far away, against Newport Park.
