John Romano and I spent most of the day along the Lake Michigan shore. We
stopped at Breezy Pt. Rd. and Hwy 151 on the way up to Sheboygan and saw a
Red-necked Phalarope and White-rumped Sandpiper, plus a few Dunlin.

At Sheboygan, gull variety was excellent, highlighted by a third-cycle Laughing
Gull on the beach north of the harbor. Also had Great and Lesser Black-backed,
Glaucous, and probable Thayer's, in addition to the usual suspects. Hardly any
shorebirds at North Point, though - just a few Dunlin and a Semi-palm SP.

Had a loudly singing Mourning Warbler at the north parking area of Fischer
Creek, plus a "five-buzzing" Clay-colored Sparrow (I've noticed that before
with Clay-coloreds at this location - regional dialect?)

At Manitowoc, we ran into Tom Prestby as he came from the impoundment - no
Little Gulls, but he said there were tons of non-active Bonaparte's. We yakked
with him for a while, then went to check out the impoundment. As promised,
many Bonaparte's (plus lots of Caspian and Common Terns, Ring-billed Gulls and
Dunlin.) And they just weren't very flitty, so it was nearly impossible to
pick out a Little Gull. Tom had seen one at Kewaunee earlier, so John and I
ran up there, but only found Ring-bills and Herrings.

Stopped briefly at Horicon on the way back, but didn't see anything of note.
Also checked some of the Harvey Rd. ponds in Columbia Co. on the way in to
Madison. On the flooded field to the east of Harvey, north of DM, there were
five Hudsonian Godwits (we initially thought one was a Marbled - larger and
paler than the smaller reddish ones, but then they all flew and we saw the
white rumps. We assume the paler one was a female.)

Chris West called me just after I got home - he and his friend Lucas were on a
SE Arizona "Birding Blitz", trying to find as many rarieties as they could in
one trip. Sounds like trouble - he described it as "two bird-crazed teenagers
with a case of root beer and a box of NutterButters." (All this in his
less-than-reliable car...) Hope they survive...
