Buffleheads are common on my winter walks along the Milwaukee lakefront. Because they are relatively common, I think I overlook the stunning beauty of the males. I love their contrasting black/white colors, and the very clean lines of demarcation between these colors on the head. And when you get them in the right angle of sunlight you can begin to see brownish and purple hues on their heads... The other day I was at Milwaukee's North Point with the afternoon sun behind me. This photo shows the crisp black/white contrasts of a trio of males: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14463444@N07/6790755454/in/photostream And this closeup of another male shows hints of other colors on his head: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14463444@N07/6790755598/in/photostream Bernie Sloan Milwaukee #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
