This morning was the first May Bird Walk in the Hixon Forest. We saw and heard about 40 species of bird with the following highlights: Blackburnian Warbler (2) Magnolia Warbler (FOY) Cape May Warbler (FOY) Chestnut-sided Warbler (FOY) Tennessee Warblers (Many) Nashville Warblers (Many) Ovenbirds (many singing) Yellow-rumped Warbler Red-eyed Vireo (FOY) Veery (FOY) Scarlet Tanager (heard only) Rose-breasted Grosbeak There will be 2 more walks in both the Myrick Marsh and the Hixon Forest. The walks start at 6:30. The Myrick Marsh walks are held on Tuesday mornings and the Hixon Forest walks are held on Thursday morning. The are free and open to the public. I finally saw my first Prothonotary Warbler of the year at Goose Island last night. They have been around for a week, but I couldn't find any. I also heard another Northern Parula there.
