I spent a part of the morning checking out Heckrodt Preserve and High Cliff SP.
The first was as usual quiet with only 3 Winter Wrens and Ruby cr. Kinglets of
note. In addition they are shutting down about 1/3 of the trail to install new
boardwalk. It is the eastern part and will probably go through most of the
summer, according to the foreman.
High Cliff SP was a pleasant sharp contrast to Heckrodt. There was a warbler,
etc wave along the lower trail that included 8 warbler species, about 35 Ruby
-cr. Kinglets, 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers. The warbler tally was 1 Orange-cr., 1
Nashville, 2 Blackburnians, 1 Yellow, 10 Palms, 1 Pine, about 60
Yellow-rumpeds, and a Black-thro. Green.
This afternoon I checked out the Shiocton area. There currently is no
shorebird habitat anywhere. On Van Patten Rd the diked area had various ducks,
a Trumpeter Swan, White Pelicans and Yellow-heade Blackbirds.
