Great questions Sue.  The guys at Team eBird ask that you do both:

eBird has a different way of defining the location that you birded, the 
type of observation you made, and doesn't currently have the option to 
define habitat types for your checklists (though this feature may be 
coming in the future).  The last is a very important component of the GBBC.

So even though we submit checklists for the same birds to both projects, 
they won't be double counted when researchers analyze the data.  They'll 
be examining different questions with eBird data and with GBBC data.  
Though it means a little more work for us to enter the same data for 
multiple projects, it's very important for each project that we do so.

Wisconsin is currently #7 in the total number of birds reported 
(>56,000) over the first two days of the GBBC but doesn't appear in the 
top ten list of states for number of checklists.  Let's change that folks!

Speaking of which, I need to enter some checklists...
