Peter - please fwd to wisbirdnet thanks! Comments: This is the monthly 2nd Saturday 10-11:30 Bird and Nature Walk cosponsored by Friends of Olin Turville Park and Madison Audubon. The group enjoyed Ron Shutvet's history tour from the old farmstead back in geological time to when this area was a pre-ice age island and the Yahara was a major Wisconsin riverway. A highlight was an Orchard Oriole near the Turville path entrance. No Bluebirds were seen but certainly present. We braved the impending threat of rain and were rewarded with a delightful breezy and sunny afternoon walk with lots of easily observed bird nesting and feeding activity. Highlights were a Baltimore Oriole feeding chicks right over our heads in one of 3 nests by the Mother Oak and Warner Creek. Also great looks at nearby ground feeding Bluebirds, Flickers, Kingbirds and a Brown Thrasher. 5 Canada Goose 1 Wood Duck 3 Mallard 1 Double-crested Cormorant 2 Great Blue Heron 3 Turkey Vulture 2 Ring-billed Gull 1 Mourning Dove 2 Northern Flicker 1 Eastern Kingbird 1 Warbling Vireo 2 Red-eyed Vireo 1 Blue Jay 2 American Crow 6 Tree Swallow 3 Bank Swallow 2 Eastern Bluebird 8 American Robin 1 Brown Thrasher 1 Song Sparrow 2 Northern Cardinal 1 Indigo Bunting 12 Red-winged Blackbird 1 Common Grackle 1 Brown-headed Cowbird 4 Baltimore Oriole 2 American Goldfinch 2 House Sparrow The 4th Sunday 1:30 Madison area Bird and Nature Walk is at the UW Lakeshore Preserve meeting at the Community Gardens Paul Noeldner, Maple Bluff / \ (:>) / \ #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
