A check of the flooded fields, etc between Black Creek, Shiocton, and New
London yielded a fair number of geese (all Canadas) and swans and a small
variety of ducks. The Van Patten 6 diked spots are still frozen but there are
scattered flooded fields in the area. New for me were Bluebirds, Pied-billed
Grebe, Fox Sparrow and Goshawk (a surprise). Later I checked the Heckrodt
preserve (currently worthless as lots of snow, ice and in places muddy trails),
Neenah and Menasha: the latter two have some ducks and gulls. There were 2
Great Black-backed and 1 Glaucous Gulls on the ice on Lake Winnebago, before
they all took off.
