Greetings everone, This has turned into a real interesting discussion. I don't know whether everone is able to see all of it, or even if I am, but wow I had know idea. I explained in my origional post on the Redpoll about my origional intent for going to Bong SRA last Sunday. I had a hard time finding the Redpolls, and because of the bright sunlight I started photographing anything with red/purple color. It turns out that I got the House Finch and its orange (I think) variant. And also the 3 real red Finches. At first I took them as Pine Grosbeak because of the large beak, no side striping, and the red coloring (from old Petersons Field Guide). I didn't notice the squinting eye difference. But then I thought I had them all corrected to Fouse Finches, but..... You can see all the Finch photos that were taken that day at: https://picasaweb.google.com/hammsidney/FinchPhotosAtBongSRA The other House Finches do look like normal House Finches. Except for the missing dark side stripes, the darker red coloring, and the large bill, the ohter 3 do too. These also have wings that appear to have been carved from wood, and upper white leg stockings. An interesting discussion. Sid Hamm Muskego Waukesh County #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
