Last Wednesday Ted Keyel was visiting the Ashland area and found a red-morph EASTERN SCREECH OWL just east of town. Ho-hum to most of you but an extraordinary find along Lake Superior, marking our first-ever sight record of this species in the Chequamegon Bay area and . It was initially sitting on a log house but was later flushed by some mobbing jays and chickadees. Thankfully, Ted and I were able to relocate it. http://www.pbase.com/rbrady/image/149458348 Coming from the south, Ted was a bit disappointed what he thought might be a Boreal Owl turned out to be "only" a Screech. But I think he left realizing this was an even better find. Probably the most awesome bird I've seen in years. Thanks Ted!
